Best of 2016 Contest

Please help us with our first annual Best of Vegan in San Diego 2016 awards! All polls below will close at 10 p.m. on December 31. If your choice is not listed, please select “Other” and comment below with the category and addition. We’ll update polls as necessary up until the deadline. Thank you for your participation, and good luck to all nominees! Winners will be announced in January and will receive a Vegan in San Diego Best of 2016 certificate, a special website listing, and bragging rights!

  1. For pizza: peace pies, for vegan friendly market: the fruit stand!!! It’s almost entirely vegan, besides the honey they sell. It’s incredible, and my favorite place to shop!

  2. Best frozen dessert is paradise yogurt!

  3. It is amazing how many options there are in categories that didn’t even exist a handful of years ago! Go, vegans, go!

  4. My favorite brunch place is Naked Cafe! All their dishes can be veganized!

  9. I was surprised that there were no Ethiopian restaurants listed. We have so many! Also, I really like the University Heights Loving Hut. Great List!!!

  10. So proud of our San Diego community for bringing awareness to veganism in the spot light so others at least can give it a shot and be amazed how easy to eat animal friendly food at so many restaurants!!!

  15. San Diego’s best vegan tacos/burritos of 2016? Definitely Loving Hut Mira Mesa. Surprised I didn’t see it on the list as their Breakfast Burrito & Cali Burritos are easily the best I’ve had!

  17. Brunch: jyoti bihanga on adams its vegan and vegetarian! Its only about 11 dollars for a brunch buffet.

  18. For pizza I love Woodstocks they have a veggie lovers and vegan cheese – and for best pop up – it’s not necessarily a pop up since it’s been there for a min but they added a 6 page vegan menu in the last year but Pho Santee is amazing and the lady that runs it is a doll

    Pretty much loving hut, plant power and Moncai vegan are in general, my favorite restaurants in the world. Their food is so delicious it brings tears to my eyes..

  20. Southern Fried Vegan also should be up for: Best Gluten-Free (1/2 the menu is), Best Sandwich (Fried Chickun Waffle Sandwich), and Brunch (All-You-Can-Eat Buffet)

      Thank you Prin! I added your nominee/vote for Sushi Uno to the best sushi poll. This year we decided against including categories like Ethiopian/Mexican/Indian, etc., but we will likely do so for next year. We’ll keep your suggestion for next year, and we’ll also add it to our list of vegan-friendly places! Thank you!

  25. City Tacos in NP has an awesome arugula portobello taco that can be made vegan! So good.

  27. A La Minute for frozen dessert, Wrench & Rodent for sushi.

  28. Lazy Acres in Encinitas for market. But also, Frazier Farms and Sprouts have a good selection of vegan options.

  29. San Diego seems spread out for those of us who don’t live there. Does anyone know of a site or page where vegan/vegan-friendly places are listed by area/neighborhood?

  31. “Choice” located in Carlsbad is an excellent All Vegan spot. I believe it is still SD county.
    Question: Is Anthem Vegan only at farmers markets?

  33. Great poll! Curious why Katie’s healing kitchen isn’t on the popup or restaurant poll but is on the donut one? They aren’t really known for donuts… But my vote is for Katie’s Healing Kitchen for best Pop-up. Thank you! I had selected “other”.

  34. Ike’s Sandwiches (Ralph’s/Trader Joe’s Mall on University in Hillcrest) has a fair amount of vegan sandwiches and should be included on that list.

  40. For podcast, The Sexy Vegan with Brian L. Patton, though I don’t know if he is San Diego specifically. Also has a cookbook and 99 cent Publishing Co, where you can buy recipes for, yup, you guessed it, 99 cents. Great YouTube videos, too.

  41. Peace Pies has amazing dessert!!! They’re totally raw (so good for you!!) If I didn’t know they were from Peace Pies I would think someone was giving me non-vegan dessert, they’re incredible and anybody would love them!!!

  42. For both best pop-up and vegan sandwich I vote Plant Power Fast Food!

  44. Best Gluten Free vegan is definitely Healthy Creations in Encinitas. Amazing quality and they have non vegan options for your omnivore friends.

  46. My mom & I went to Plant Powered a little over a month ago since they had such good reviews and they must have had an off night or something because we both disliked everything we got and haven’t been back since.
